Our Client: Solihull Hospital is an acute general hospital situated close to Solihull town centre in the West Midlands. Managed by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, it delivers a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services to the local community.

Their Brief: Merit was appointed by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust to design and deliver a new £25 million Elective Hub (Operating Theatre Block) at Solihull Hospital. This state-of-the-art, two-storey facility will house six cutting-edge operating theatres, three ultra-clean and three robotic, supported by essential clinical areas and staff welfare spaces, all carefully designed to improve patient care and enhance staff experience. The project demanded strict compliance with HBN guidelines, ambitious sustainability targets, and delivery within tight budget constraints.

Our Solution: With strict budget requirements in place, the original sanitaryware specification was revised to incorporate our in-house brand, SanCeram. This change delivered significant cost savings while still ensuring full compliance with HBN guidelines. The use of rimless WCs and dual-flush cisterns reduced water consumption, contributing to sustainability targets.

• Right hand tap hole basin, with bottom outlet for easy maintenance and overflow to reduce risk of flooding

• 480mm raised height WC for Doc M and HBN compliance

• Rimless flush design provides a silent, water-efficient operation while reducing bacterial buildup for improved hygiene
