Top Tips For Your Education Project

We understand that safety, ease of use and hygiene are of paramount importance when selecting sanitaryware for an education project. We also know that children need to feel comfortable in their surroundings. If you are working on a school washroom project then here are our top tips to take into consideration when selecting your sanitaryware.

Age Appropriate Sanitaryware.

You need to make sure you are choosing the right sanitaryware depending on the age of the pupils using the washroom. Nursery, Reception and Primary School children all need to be encouraged to use the washrooms independently and freely. Young years such as Nursery and Reception will need lower height WCs so they can comfortably sit down. Our SanCeram Shenley Back to Wall WC measures 350mm high from the floor to the rim making it an ideal height for young children. This will also help support children with toilet training, during the transition from potty to toilet.

Smaller Wash Hand Basins such as our 400mm Shenley Slim Semi-recessed Basin are also ideal to prevent children from over stretching to reach the tap. Toggle taps are ideal for Nursery and SEN Schools as they offer the same benefits of Self-closing Taps but are extremely easy to use. They need little to no force to be operated making them easier to use than Press Action taps and if you are on a budget they are more cost friendly than Sensor taps.

With the rise of unisex washrooms in Secondary Education settings, Urinals are often excluded and replaced with full privacy washroom cubicles. With open plan, high traffic unisex washrooms, Solid Surface Wash Troughs can be used. They allow multiple users at once and encourage the flow of pupils through the washroom. They are extremely hardwearing and easily repairable, if they do get a scratch then this can be sanded out and wiped clean. An added bonus is the hygienic smooth surface stops germs harbouring and makes them easy to clean.

Safety.

All taps should be fitted with TMV3 valves, they are pre-set to 41 degrees the ideal hand washing temperature to ensure maximum user hygiene along with a failsafe to prevent scolding.

Hygiene.

Hygiene is one of the most important things to take into consideration when choosing sanitaryware for a school washroom. Especially in the current climate, reducing cross contamination and touch points in a washroom are paramount. Sensor products are becoming increasingly popular in all washrooms, they remove the need to touch surfaces where bacteria and germs can populate. We provide a vast range of Sensor products such as Sensor Taps, Flushes and Hand Dryers that are all ideal for a school washroom to help promote maximum user hygiene. They also have the added bonus of looking good too.

Rimless WC’s have no rims to harbour germs, making cleaning quick, easy and more effective. Design and efficiency have been successfully combined so that water flows vertically and horizontally, before flushing the entire inner surface of the bowl, without splashing. Our SanCeram Chartham and Langley Rimless WC’s are ideal for schools to make the most of this hygienic technology.

Water Saving.

Water saving products not only make washrooms more efficient but also save money and help the environment. Self-closing taps close off within a set amount of time, controlling the water flow and ensuring they are not left on and water wasted. Dual flush Cisterns enable a full or reduced flush to save water. The flush capacity can be reduced to as little as 4ltr for a full flush and 2.4ltr for a half flush reducing water usage by a third. Whilst Sensor Urinal Flushing’s can be used and programmed
so that the urinals only flush when in use, meaning no flushing overnight or during
the weekend unless desired.
