The Northern Lighthouse Board has been providing a vital safety service to mariners since 1786 and are responsible for the superintendence and management of all lights, buoys and beacons within Scottish and Isle of Man waters. Not only do they make a significant contribution to the prevention of accidents and incidents around the coastline, they also help protect precious marine life.
Their Brief
The Edinburgh headquarters of the Northern Lighthouse Board has recently undergone a major refurbishment. Mike Bullock, Chief Executive said: “The building is having its ageing electrical systems replaced and we are taking the opportunity to make it greener, with better office and welfare facilities, which will provide working conditions fit for the 21st Century. This will allow us to continue with what we do best – keeping people and the environment safe from harm.”

As well as being modern and aesthetically pleasing, the Northern Lighthouse Board wanted to ensure that their new washroom facilities promoted excellent user hygiene and looked to reduce their water consumption where possible.
